How should Prince Charles's wife be styled? Sat May 12, 2007 14:57 pm  How should Prince Charles's wife be styled?

Hi,

When HRH The Prince of Wales acceedes to the British throne his wife Her Royal Highness The Princess Charles Philip Arthur George, Princess of Wales and Countess of Chester, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Carrick, Baroness of Renfrew, Lady of the Isles, Princess of Scotland is said to be styled as HRH The Princess Consort rather than HM The Queen. What do you think about this?

Hi,

Why do you get so involved in all these titles? Does it really matter? I'm sure there is not anyone using this site other than your good self who bothers about such frippery.

My question to you is: How do you style yourself?

Alan

Hi Alan,

The Duchess's title-to-be has been discussed widely in the media. I am clearly not the only person who is interested in this.

How do I style myself? An interesting question. But does it really matter?

Perhaps you, Alan, should adopt a new title? How about this one:
Alan the First, Emperor of English-Test.net, By the Grace of God Defender of the English Language? Don't forget to replace the 'A' with Alan I (I = Imperator).

Hi Alan,

In addition to this, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II "bothers about this kind of frippery". I believe Her Majesty requested The Duchess of Cornwall use that title rather than the title of Princess of Wales. Also, Her Majesty made it clear that other royal women would precede The Duchess of Cornwall in the British order of precedence. It sometimes is crucial whether or not you are of blood royal, don't you think?

Hi EU,

You slay me with your slavish almost slobbering deference to this clan. I said: I'm sure there is not anyone using this site other than your good self who bothers about such frippery. I am not aware that any royal digits log on to our site. As for your frippery about me, well my oh my.

Haven't you been paying attention to what's in the news? I am confident that The Duchess of Cornwall's title when her husband (The Prince of Wales) acceedes to the throne is of interest to many people. Will she become the first Princess Consort ever in British and Commonwealth history?

There are micronations, you know. Perhaps English-Test.net should become an independent nation? (Threre are micronations exisiting only on the Net.)

Hi Yankee,

First of all, my apologies for the typo.

Second of all, if your question is serious in nature, The Duchess's title is rarely used in full.

You do need a good breathing technique to get through this litany of titles in one go -- this is one of the things for which all my years of singing would be useful (another thing it comes in handy for is blowing out my birthday candles).

As an aside, and considering your passion for nobility, EU, you might be interested to hear that the current duchess of Alba, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, has even more titles than your beloved Queen Lizzie II – or than any other noble in the world, for that matter:

I presume that gasp would be taken as a manifestation of arrant disrespect to Her Majesty:)
