Tom, a beer is a good idea. What is your favorite brand? I only drink non-alcoholic beer and when I was in the UK, the bartenders and waiters would always stare at me in disbelief when I asked if I could have a non-alcoholic beer. They usually would express their sympathy and apologize a couple of times because they clearly thought I was either nuts or just out of rehab or both...
Liverpool fans, why do you ask? I take it you are talking about soccer?

You know, if my wallet were bottomless, I'd drink ales/porters/stouts.

As it is, I've recently gotten into Stroh's... brewed in Milwaukee since something like 1775 -- which makes it a very, very old American beer.

Stroh's has a beautiful head -- really reminiscent of the head of an ale. IT also (to me, anyway) has a nice medium-malt taste and a clean finish.

I am NOT a beer connoisseur and/or critic, so it's possible I'm way off base regarding the quality of Stroh's (compared to the accepted verdict on that beer), but I like it.

I bought a six-pack three or four days ago. The Ex-girlfriend/girlfriend (don't ask) had a couple of them, which means I consumed four beers in three or four days. I don't drink much.
