. I occasionally shop on the internet for used books and other items that I cannot find here in Japan. I use my credit card at sites that use e.g. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, but do not allow the website to store my credit card information (an option that is usually offered upon registration).
Like it or not, the internet is the medium of the foreseeable future, and if you wish to take advantage of the convenience and opportunities it offers, you will have to endure some psychological risk. Walking down the street, you may get mugged, but that doesn't stop you from shopping in the real world. Just be attentive. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Hi,Mister Micawber
I agree with you although I am still scared to buy something on the Internet. In my opinion, transactions on the Internet is more unsafe than in the real world, definitely. And if I want to buy something on the Internet, sellers simply show some photos. I simply couldn't believe what I see. If I go to store personally, I can view stuff carefully. Maybe I would think a little bit time when buying something. I am a frugal girl, and I rarely have chance to buy things that I can't find out in my country. That's why I still buy things in the real world.
Moreover,as I know,SET(Secure Electronic Transaction) is more safe than SSL. I am wondering why you use SSL,but not SET?
Talk with you soon!

| There are something like electronic equipment you can go by model numbers...so buying them from a store or via the internet makes no difference. I buy most smaller things from the internet and never had any problems. |

I have never taken advantage of this opportunity like doing shopping via Internet. At least, there is no necessity yet, but in the future I'd like to try this kind of service in order to weigh all pros and cons |

| Buying something from a secure site on the Internet with a credit card is safer than using a credit card in a normal store. Anybody in the store who handles your credit card can steal your credit card information, but it's extremely difficult for anyone to get it from an encrypted retail or banking site. I have been buying and selling things online for about 13 years, and I've never had a security problem, so far. Most of my money is in a brokerage that I access online, and no one has ever hacked it. |

Hello Maggie,
I never sell anything, yet, but I always buy books, skincare and cosmetics that I cannot get here in Japan (MAC,Stila, etc). And also Halal foods, when I had to buy in a large quantity, I prefer to buy it online than to go to the shop itself and have them delivered to my door
And I prefer COD to credit cards. Or paying in advance thru the convenience store. Now I that I live in a more rural area, I think I'd be doing more internet shopping.
And I think it depends on the country that you live in. It's so far so good, in Japan.
