Hello,friends:
Can you tell me the differences between "funding " and "funds"?
"He complained that the project was always short of funds"
Well, that sounds ok,but how about "funding"? This word also has something similar ......when is "funding" used usually ? Thanks !!

funding and funds Sun May 20, 2007 15:12 pm  funding and funds

Hi Fangfang,
I am not a maven of Business English, but I think they can be synonymous.

Short of funds=short of money, financial resources
short of funding=short of financing, financial resources.

MM and Amy are pundits in this field.

NB:corrected.

No pundit I. I agree with Pam (except 'funding', not 'founding')-- pretty much synonymous in many cases, except of course when speaking of a specific fund (a discrete money reserve).

In your example, I sense the implied difference between 'short of funds' (no money available) and 'short of funding' (no money-raising process / money-supplying source available)-- and I think you will find that that difference applies in other cases where the writer has made a conscious choice between the two words.

Oops, MM, I meant 'funding', of course.. Founding was simply a typo. Thank you for pointing that out.
