Hi Fangfang, I am not a maven of Business English, but I think they can be synonymous.
Short of funds=short of money, financial resources short of funding=short of financing,financial resources.
MM and Amy are pundits in this field.

. No pundit I. I agree with Pam (except 'funding', not 'founding')-- pretty much synonymous in many cases, except of course when speaking of a specific fund (a discrete money reserve).
In your example, I sense the implied difference between 'short of funds' (no money available) and 'short of funding' (no money-raising process / money-supplying source available)-- and I think you will find that that difference applies in other cases where the writer has made a conscious choice between the two words. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Oops, MM, I meant 'funding', of course.. Founding was simply a typo. Thank you for pointing that out. |
