Use of Perfect: It sounds like the perfect rabbit for Toby...

I have a problem when I was reading the book The terrible power of House Rabbit, it said "' It sounds like the perfect rabbit for Toby' said Mum." In the sentence, is that "perfect" is used as a superlative? Is that there is no superlative for "perfect" (as it means the best)?

Hi,

'Perfect' in the sentence you quoted suggests exactly right or suitable for. In its fundamental sense you are quite right to indicate that there are not degrees of perfection but in your sentence the idea points more towards rightness. A common description for an occasion when everything you have planned works as you wanted is 'a perfect day'
