Hi,

Could you help me out with:

Quote:
Everyone agreed that Clevinger was certain to go far in the academic world. In short, Clevinger was one of those people with lots of intelligence and no brains, and everyone knew it except those who soon found it out.

What is the point of 'those who soon found it out didn't knew it'?

Thank you very much!

It means that it was so obvious that everyone eventually knew it. If a person didn't know that the man was an intellectual with no common sense, there would certainly soon be some event that would show this to them.
