Dear Alan Townend,
Thank you for your concern. I have just studied for a long time in a far distance (from my house). It is the rural. So, I cant use internet. Your 'missive' is very long and have many new words. I both read it and look up the dictionary.. I will read it clearly. In Viet Nam, there are some changes about TOEFL examination (next generation TOEFL).

And I meet some problems. I will study and enter our forum. Hope that I will improve (especially I want to be a modern person) everything. I intend to register some the language centers to improve listening, writing skills.

Write to you longer later!

Best wishes for you!
Lan.

Thanks.

Dear Alan,
I'm very grateful for your newsletter.I'm constantly thinking of which words and word-combinations are widely used in modern English and which ones aren't. Not long ago I used "They are different as chalk and cheese" at my lesson, being not confident it was all right. Now I do know it is used. Thanks again and look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

All the best

Dear Alan,

Thank you for paying this most welcome visit. As Americans would say " You made my day ". Teaching gear boxes and plate girders stuff to undergraduates somehow grinds on your every day vocab store. Your letter was quite a reminder that English is perhaps the greatest linguistic legacy we teachers of ESL are entitled to sharing.

Over the years most of us start thinking we have become experts in what we do which, to my knowledge, is claimed through the simple statement " Oh, I 've developed a nose for it". This , as is the case with my university, means that if we do projects at full throttle, we will get a reward other than peppermints. No objection as long as pepper( what a costly spice during the Middle Ages) is removed from the remuneration as well as the plural ending. Then we get mint which is not that bad if we think of the Royal Mint.

Well, I admit my reply was an attempt at catching the spirit of your letter and , by following suit, to sound as a native would, however, a new trick for an old dag such as me is too much to take.

What shall I say in closing? Perhaps a second THANK YOU will do. Not quite. Let's put it that way.

Alan,
your letters do help a lot in making me larger than life. God bless you.

Best regards,

Dear Alan Townend,

I am really impressed with the content of this mail, maybe you do not know, but I am a Salvadorian guy trying to learn and improve my English.

Your comments, articles and website have been so useful for me. I always read the newsletter and your mails as well as visiting the site.

I do not think there is something to add or improve in your site. I have accessed the test and I am trying to improve listening and conversation skills.

In addition I initiated a web project, www.site4executive.com and will be interesting to receive your comments.
