English Language academies. A waste of time? #1 (permalink) Fri Jun 08, 2007 8:10 am   English Language academies. A waste of time?

When I was very young I was sent to a lot of english language academies.
My parents make a big effort for that with the hope that someday I wouldl
be very good at english. But during those years I only learnt very few things.
Only when I decided to learn english by myself I began to have a decent level of english.

In a recent topic in this forum I asked about different methods to learn english in a non speaking english country. Well, using all those methods make me learn, read, understand and above all enjoy with the english language. That's the key -> enjoy.

So next time you are going to send your children to an english language academy make sure they are using the correct methods and they are not just following a grammar book. Because if that is the case you are going to waste your money and children are going to hate the english language.

Regards.

Welcome aboard, Migmam (can I assume you are a Miguel or Miguel ?ngel?)!

You gave some very sound advice. So many people here spend huge amounts of money on trying to learn English, only to end up disappointed. As you well know (and have previously pointed out, I think), one of the problems we face is the lack of exposure to foreign languages, not only in the Spanish media, but outside the classroom in general – this is where I say thank goodness for things like DVDs or the Internet.

Hope to see you around often!
