| An expatriate is a person who is not living in their home country. The informal term is 'expat'. It has nothing to do with being an expert at something. |

Just as I suspected.
Malaysians have been using the word "expatriate" to refer to "experts" who came back from overseas. It is widely used there. I guess we'll never know what they really mean to say, an expert or an expatriate :? .
Thanks for clearing that up! Nina |

Maybe they mean an expert expatriate. Maybe most expatriates who attract people's attention in Malaysia are experts at something. Maybe they're experts at living as expatriates.
I have read that the Samoan word for a foreigner who speaks Samoan is "pisikoa", which comes the the US development assistance agency called The Peace Corps. Not every foreigner who speaks Samoan is an American development assistance volunteer, but I guess people are used to assuming that. |
