Hi!

As I know that some time ago this site was bombed with advertisements of Viagra and similar products and nowdays it is protected against that I?d like to know how you managed that? The reason of my question is that the company I?am employed at nearly every day receives such advertisements is looking for an effective protection.

Does anybody know one?

Regards

Hi Michael,

Yes we've managed to eliminate spam almost entirely by switching to 'registered mode'. This means that only registered users can post messages. Since most forum spam is posted by software robots they can't get access to our forum since they aren't registered users.

As for the company you are working for, it's probably best if they start using a corporate network that filters spam effectively. On a private level I recommend Gmail which has the best spam filter available today.

Hi Torsten!

Yes, allowing registered users some posts only seems an appropriate way of preventing from unwanted spams. Sites of many victualers ,too, can be used if you are registered only (..apparently from exactly this reason).

As for your recommendations I´d like to thank you. I´ll have a look on them.

Michael

P.s: I wonder if the headline of this thread would better sound: "how do you prevent from......" or "how do you guard against......"?

Good Michael,

You can protect yourself from something or against something and you can prevent something from happening so I guess your headline is fine. As for the spam protection, I remember when I started to use the Internet back in 1995 a friend of mine recommended McAfee, an antivirus package that was said to be very effective. Ever since then I have tried out several brands and have come the conclusion that Avira Antivir is the best solutions. Seems like the Germans are excellent at policing the Internet Smile

As far as I know Avira don't have an affiliate program in place yet but it certainly would be a good idea.
