Question: Some young adults want independence from their parents as soon as possible. Other young adults prefer to live with their families for a longer time. Which of these situations do you think is better? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
Independence, this is usually the primary reason why some young adults can’t wait to move out of their parent’s house. But the question is, are they ready? Well most of them if not all, are not. The aggressive thinking of these young adults blinded them from the huge responsibility that this independence entails. They need to be financially, emotionally and physically ready for this decision. In my opinion, this is not practical for a lot of reasons.
First of all, most of these young adults are still in school. It would be better if they are with their parents in the sense that they can have the guidance and assistance that they need. One more thing, living independently will just give them a reason to indulge in activities that might ruin their lives. What I’m saying is, since they are already independent and have all the privacy that they need, they can do anything that they want. Some young girls would end up getting pregnant at a very young age, and what happens? Drop out of school to look for a fulltime job to support the baby. Before embracing freedom, these young adults should bear in mind that independence is a lot of responsibility.
On the other hand, being with the family at this time of their lives will direct them to the right path. These young adults don’t have to worry anything else other than school. As a Filipino this is our tradition. We live with our parents until the time that we get married. That’s why we value our families, most especially our parents for guiding us through life. Living with them gives us a sense of security, emotionally, spiritually and financially. The thought that you are not alone, you can always turn to them in times of difficulties is just so overwhelming. Living with our families always gives us the opportunity to help them and be there for them in any way that we can.
Independence is just around corner, so there’s no need to rush. It’s sweeter when you are ready.
