Regarding sentences 2 and 3, if you do not contract have/has and not in a negative question, then the word not must follow the subject of the sentence.
Since contractions are normal in spoken English, sentence 3 would be the "normal" formation of your negative question, and sentence 2 would tend to sound more emphatic in spoken English. |
So, which sentence is correct:
Amy, have you not noticed that my elderly noggin does not register very academic explanations?
Amy, haven't you notice that my elderly noggin does not register very academic explanation? :) _________________ Learning is a sacred engagement. |

They're both correct, but you should only use the first sentence in more formal written English OR save it for special times when you want to be more emphatic in informal English.
Sentence 2 would be typical in most situations, so that would be the one you should usually use. _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |
