No, that word order would not mean the same thing, and to me it normally wouldn't make much sense either. For example, if you said "Once he even died", the stress is on the idea 'died once'. That means that it is surprising that somebody died once. That would suggest to me "one of the many things he did was to die", which also suggests that someone could die multiple times and/or that he may have come back to life and done other things after the one time that he died. As you see, it's rather nonsensical.
