| Without the entire context, it's impossible to understand what this means. I think you've got words from two different expressions put together there. Please give us the whole sentence. |

You didn't provide all the context. Please give the rest of the sentence. How can we understand what the expressions mean if you end it right before the important information starts?! |

Hi Volcano
The word 'once' probably means 'one of the three times'.
The word 'even' is used for emphasis and suggests that what happened after (whatever happened) was a little hard to believe.
Maybe before he was hit by lightning the third time, he had gone to a lot of trouble to make sure he never got hit by lightning again -- but got hit anyway. |

Hi Volcano
Presumably, you are supposed to make up an unbelievable story (or ending for the sentence) about how he got struck by lightning again despite the fact that he'd been struck before and should have learned how to prevent it -- OR despite the fact that he was buried up to his head in sand and even though his head was protected by a gigantic, paralyzed fish... or something like that. . Give it a try. |

Hi, Well, here is my go at it:
Major Summerfield was a victim of lighting three times, once even after he died The first time was 1918.He fought (or was fighting) for the Canadian army in Flanders when he was struck by lightning and he fell off his horse. However, he wasnt badly injured (not, badly) Major Summerfield was a keen fisherman and six years later, back in his home town of Vancouver, he was fishing and he had just caught a huge salmon, when lightning struck again. This time it was more serious and his legs got paralized He eventually died in 1932.On the day of his funeral there was a terrible thunderstorm, and just as Major Summerfield was being buried, lightning hit the graveyard, and his tombstone shattered into hundreds of tiny pieces

One time (the third time, in this case) he got hit by lightning when he was dead. Hard to believe, isn't it?
Once = one of the times he was hit by lightning even after = Surprisingly, after he died he was hit by lightning too!
