TOEFL sample essay: advertising is negative #1 (permalink) Thu Jun 28, 2007 22:08 pm   TOEFL sample essay: advertising is negative

In the today’s society, the advertising is everywhere and to review its effect it has more negative effects than positive. I believe this is because some advertisements are misleading people and some are harmful for children’s education.

Most of the advertisements are misleading people. For example, in some antiobesity drug advertisement, the words that they used are focused a lot the bad things that may related to the obesity, such as the heart diseases, high blood pressure and diabetes. They contribute all these diseases to obesity. Those advertisements always exaggerate bad things and ignore the good sides or do not mention the good thing with obesity. In fact, some research found that existing some quantity of the fat in a body is good thing for the body. If the body is deprived of the fat, it will have more possibilities to get ill. Because of the advertisements, some people refuse to eat or great reduce their food intake, as a result, their health have been greatly harmed and some of them even have died of their dieting.

Another negative of advisement is that it harms children’s education. There are a lot of advertisements that state playing computer games can improve a child’s intelligence by speeding children’s reaction time. So parents spent a lot of money to buy games for their children. Children like playing these game very much and most of children are getting to addicted to the game and spend nearly all their spare time on them, as a results, most of them can not focused on their studying and failed their academic subjects.

As above mentioned, the advertisements have more the negative effects to the society than the positive sides. It is the advertisements that are misleading people and harm our children’s education.
