Question: What is your job? #1 (permalink) Tue Jul 03, 2007 11:27 am   Question: What is your job?

Normally you can ask "What do you do?"

So are these sentences below equivalent to "What do you do?"
1. What is your job?
2. What is your occupation?
3. What is your work?
4. What do you work? (Is this grammatically wrong maybe?)

And how do you use
1. My job is .............
2. My work is ...........

You know I love learning the right things

Thanks a lot

1. What is your job? Basically equivalent, but it is not very natural.
2. What is your occupation? This sounds very formal.
3. What is your work? No
4. What do you work? No (Is this grammatically wrong maybe?) Technically, it is grammatically correct, but nobody would ever say it.

You can also say these:
- What do you do for a living?
- What line of work are you in?

And how do you use
1. My job is temporary/boring/interesting/challenging.
2. My work is boring/interesting/challenging.

In other words, I would probably use adjectives to complete the two sentences above.
