Hi

I have been thinking of asking this question for quite some time now--but, believe me, could not muster up the courage to do so. Sometimes it happens that while swimming or sleeping we get an extremely sharp (strenuous?) pain in the middle of our calf—as if the vein their dislocated. I hope someone of you have experienced that! I would really like to know how I can express that in formal English.

Quote:
1- While swimming ________________________ happened and he started to drown.

2- While sleeping ______________ happened and he woke up screaming.

Many thanks

Tom

PS: Do veins dislocate?

Veins do not dislocate, to the best of my knowledge; it sound to me as if you have a muscle cramp. However, this is a language forum, not a medical forum.

Many thanks, MM

Do the following sound OK to you? (How to add calf in them? ) Shocked

Quote:
1- While swimming he had a muscle cramp (in his right calf?) and he started to drown.

2- While sleeping he developed a muscle cramp (in his calf?) and he woke up screaming.

Regards

Tom

Yes, both sound fine. I would probably use 'got' instead of 'had' in #1.

Hi Tom

PS
No, you should not say 'a strenuous pain'. The word 'sharp' is fine.
