'Write some material of my own'???
Ahem! There is already an abundance of my material on this site, Alan. How did you manage to miss that fact, Alan? Or does it only "count" when the material is in the form of a test?

Of course it's "your site". It's also clear that you're not particularly open to any suggestions from "outsiders".

As for your comments about whether I choose to have my online status hidden or not, or what avatar I choose, does that mean you wish to dictate the non-use of the 'hidden' function, and also dictate which avatars may or may not be used by members?

What I got from your last post is that you are not the least bit interested in discussing suggestions that might actually be good ones -- especially if those suggestions come from "outsiders".

It seems to me that you feel threatened by "outsiders" who might just know something about English that you don't know. Sorry, but that's the impression I get.

My question was: If you are so against the way this site is conducted, why do you keep coming back? Ahem!

Has it occurred to you that there are other people besides you here, Alan?

I must say, your last post is a perfect example of your overly defensive attitude towards "outside" ideas, suggestions and opinions.

I suppose I am aware that over 20,000 subscribers receive my monthly newsletter and I believe I am aware of them when I write it! But my question remains:

If you are so against the way this site is conducted, why do you keep coming back? Ahem!

To me, it is counter-productive to insist on seeing suggestions as being nothing more than an indication that someone is 'so against the way this site is conducted'.

Why do I keep coming back? Well, as you may have guessed by now, it is not because of any great love for you personally. And it certainly isn't because of the times you've simply insulted me rather than thanking me for my unpaid help. My goodness, you even stoop to criticizing and ridiculing my avatar. Talk about 'acerbity'! Nope, you are definitely not the reason I'm here.

I suppose there any number of reasons that I continue to post here. Here are a few of them:
- I'm interested in ESL and the questions that ESLers ask.
- I'm interested in trying to help sort out and answer those questions.
- I've got lots of experience and expertise to offer.
- Members of this site have pleaded with me to stay here.
- Requests to (re)explain something something that you or someone else has already tried to explain.
- I've already invested a lot of time in "your" site.

As I've said a number of times before, what I am definitely not interested in doing is writing new tests for a site that doesn't have a more reasonably adequate editing procedure in place. I offered a suggestion about how that could be done, but even that has been reacted to defensively. So, the only option I currently see is to continue posting directly in the forum whenever I notice a typo, error, oversight or whatever that needs fixing in one of the tests.

Perhaps you see no problem in having typos, errors and incorrect answers in the tests, however my opinion is that they ought to be fixed.

.
.

By the way:
You're welcome.

Thank you for your reply to my question, which I appreciate your having answered. I still feel however that you tend to misinterpret what I have done and said and have now personally grown weary of trying to explain my actions. I would appreciate it if you could tone down your somewhat bullying and officious manner if you intend to stay. It can be very annoying and in all honesty this has absolutely nothing to do with your insistence that I am being 'defensive'. In terms of what you call insulting I believe you give as good as you take. I still recall your challenging my ability as an EFL teacher. I can't recall having challenged your ability in that regard. It has always been the manner in which you have raised matters that I have remonstrated against.

Bullying? Officious? Sorry, but that's the pot calling the kettle black again.

It's nice that you at least thanked me for my reply. How about some discussion about how the tests can be more effectively and efficiently edited? Why is that so darn difficult for you to talk about?

But in this version of test I can make changes only on Monday.

This test needs a typo correction:
http://www.english-test.net/forum/ftopic25584.html#88369

The correct spelling is: opportunity
.
.
(The typo I mentioned in my previous post also still needs correction.)

A test-taker has pointed out an error in question 5 here:
http://www.english-test.net/forum/ftopic25761.html#89456
.
.
In the same test ("Confusing Words test (3)"), question 2 also needs tweaking.
My suggestion would be to change it to two separate sentences:
The fierce wind blew all night long. It was intolerable!

Hi Amy,

Thanks for that. I've made the changes and they'll go online next week.
