Hi

Has the 'safe door' used in figurative meaning? Does it mean that he was prepared to defend himself?

Many thanks

Hi,

It's not figurative:
'safe door' = the door to the safe.

safe = strong fireproof cabinet with a complex lock, used for the storage of valuables.
