Dear Alan,
Thank you very much for your nice and humorous texts. They remind me of one of my favourite books, "Three men in a boat". Go on like this! And the texts are very useful in terms of improving the vocabulary. Thanks again!

Dear Alan, How are you? I am really sorry, because I just read your e-mail. I have been so busy with the first day of school because i am a teacher here. I always know where I am going every single day, from Monday to Friday. I go to the school which is I work there. So every day I have to face with the traffic jam, but that's Jakarta. I don't know if my grammar is correct or not but I hope the more emails I send you the better my English will get. Bye... God Bless You

| Dear Mr. Alan, thank you very much for your letters, they are very well written, so funny and helpful for me to learn new words and idioms. I was a skipper of fishings boats and therefore I know the GPS and the previous satellite navigation systems. Thanks a lot again, with my best regards, Angel Ibanez |

Dear Alan,
I like "Do you know where you're going?". It gave me some good information. But I have a smaii problem when I read and understand what you wrote. I don't know the mean of "marshall'st". So can you help me to say me its' mean? I think GPS is wonderful. GPS is helpful to find way on journey. But in Vietnam, I can't have a GPS. In Vietnam, if you want to find way, you have to have a map or ask local people. So you can't reach your destination if you don't have a map or don't understand what local language. I wish I could have a GPS.
I'm funny to receive your newsletter.
Thank you!
Lan

Hi,
This is an example of English in the 16th cenutry as used by Shakespeare when the second person singular often used to have 'st' at the end of the verb. What we would say now is 'you show or you lead me the way'.

Hi Suni,
I'm glad you like Alan's essays. As for improving your writing skills, I guess you have to read more. Also, when you write a text on your computer it's good to use a spell checker. When you read more, you pick up more correct English phrases. In addition, you should use Google to check whether the phrases you write or correct or not. For example, if you google your phrase "if tell me the ways" you will see that nobody has ever used it on the Internet. So it's very unlikely that your phrase "is English". You have just made it up yourself. The key to improving your writing skills is to learn more phrases that already exist instead of creating new ones. _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

Hi All, I've been trying to look for the girl who wrote about Nurin Jazimin the 8 year old girl who was brutally murdered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I want to share with her my story. I can't help crying when I though of the little girl. Did you know that the killer broke her neck and her backbone to stuff her in tha sports bag? For all the 25 or so days she was kidnapped, they did not give her any food? It was really horrifying. And to stuff cucumber and brinjal in her private part till her intestine burst is really an act of a satan. Even animals love their young ones so we can't call the killer or killers, animal.
I heard they caught 4 suspects - all men. They are between 27 - 33 years old. I don't think they are going to charge Nurin's parents for negligence because if they do, there might be a huge protest. They suffered enough. The area is just not safe and more police surveillance should be done around housing areas.
God bless Nurin and prayers for her parents.
