Hi,

Could you help me again?

Quote:
What had been the saloon of the steamboat was now a shell, rotting slowly; the polished mahogany, the carving glinting momentarily and fading through the mold in figures cabalistic and profound; the gutted windows were like cataracted eyes.

Could I reword it to:

What had been the saloon of the steamboat was now a skeleton, rotting slowly; the carving on the polished mahogany glinting momentarily and fading through the mold, the pattern of which was like some cabalistic and profound figures ; the windows short of glasses were like pearl eyes.

Thank you so much!

Hi Haihao,

Just one comment - I think it would be better to say 'deprived of glass' and possibly 'eyes that had clouded over' But then you understand the meaning of the description, which is the main thing. Mine are just alternative suggestions.

Hi Alan,

Good morning!

Thank you all the same and from your comment I realized not only 'deprived of' was more accurate but I shouldn't have used 'glasses' as well. Also, 'eyes that had clouded over' is of a much better paraphrase.
