Hi Abhi,

Well, I think because Yale is such a prestigious school they will be looking at GPA for sure (I go to Harvard and I can tell you this is really important), but I am not sure about Purdue. From what I know, schools don't usually list GPA expectations but I would imagine that you would want at least 3.5 if you are coming straight from undergrad.

In support, however, get a good GRE score (the schools will post their median scores on their websites) and also make sure you get good recommendations. The most important thing, however, is your personal statement.

I think though that your first step should be to get someone to do the GPA converting for you (I think you must come from another system?); your academic adviser should be able to help here. Each system around the world is different even if they use the GPA. After you get this information I suggest you call the school directly to ask.

It is a little strange that they don't tell you the required GPA in the US ... I remember when I was looking at UK schools they all specified at least a 2:1 or sth like that.

Anyways, I hope this helps and good luck.

Oh, and one final thing, you may want to invest a little money with the services that Kaplan and Princeton Review provides that helps you with the application process. I myself will be making use of these in due course. The great thing is that they actually help you look for appropriate schools, get scholarship information, as well as give you help on your personal statement.
