Hello from Russia! My name is Rita #1 (permalink) Thu Jul 12, 2007 21:14 pm   Hello from Russia! My name is Rita

So, my name is Rita or Margaret(which I like more)I'm from Russia.
I'm just 16 years old. This year I've graduated from school and I have entrance examinations to the university which begin from July,15. I have only two examinations, but one of them (English) is very important for me, as it will decide my fate. I'm very scaried, because there will be topics to speak on and a lexical test, two my great problems, knowing of words and speaking.

I love the English language and especially the British accent. My dream is to visit England and maybe...stay there, who knows?

Most of all I love the accent of Londoners, I can listen to it for hours, I even already can make out whether this man from London or not. I adore this accent and feel very, very sorry for myself because I will never have that kind of accent Crying or Very sad

Oh, and I've been studying English since the fourth grade (so, it's 8 years), but I feel shame at the fact that my level of English is not as good as it could be, 'cause 8 years is a lot of time! But unfortunately Russian teachers don't teach as well as I would desire. I received most of knowledge during business trips of my family for 2-3 years in Romania and Austria, although English is not, of course, their official language, I just studied in the Russian school attached to the Russian Embassy, but there were good teachers, who possessed profound knowledge of English.
So, here I am Smile ready for knowledge

And I beg you, if I make some mistakes(even small) in grammar, use of words, spelling, just tell me! Ok?
Rita

Hello Rita,

I'm Rosalisa, from Cambodia.I'm 19 years old. People everywhere have this problem too. My cousin learned English since she was 6 years old and she told me the same problem. She wanted to improve her English to the fullest extent but she couldn't. However, I consider that it is not a problem at all because usually people learn better and faster when they are older. Very Happy And, actually, it's never too late to learn. Very Happy

Oh, I help improve some phrases of your post and I'm pleased to help as much as I can. Very Happy

Hi, Rosalisa! Thank you very much for improving my post!! Could you explain to me, why is it better to use the preposition "and" in this sentence:Most of all I love the accent of Londoners, and I can listen to it for hours. For example, in Russian it sounds like a normal asyndetic sentence. And it's not in English, is it?

Hi Rita,
For me the sentence above is correct whatever you will write „and” or not Smile but I’m looking at it from my Polish perspective.
I smiled when I had read this sentence "I'm very scary", because it means you are frightening, so I think you wanted to write I’m very scared, in other words: afraid, terrified.
I have learned for more than 8 years but I have the same impression that could learn harder and I didn’t.
Greetings from Poland!
See you.

You're very welcome, Rita. Actually, Hopeful girl Very Happy was right that you don't need to use "and" in this sentence "Most of all I love the accent of Londoners, (and) I can listen to it for hours." Yet, in a formal and acceptable standard in writing, you should use "and", Rita. In speaking, we don't need to care much about using "and".

Oh, Rita, "and" is a conjunction and other conjuctions are like "or, but, yet, nor, so, for".

P.S. What are you scared of, Rita? Very Happy

Have fun.

Hi, Rita!
I just want to wish you good luck at the exams. I hope you'll pass them successfully and become a student. Don't worry for your mistakes. You really make a lot of mistakes, but I think your English is rather good and you have a great chance to improve it after entering the university.
Don't think that all the teachers in Russia are bad. I'm teaching in Russia and my students are very fond of my lessons.
Cheers, Harry Smith
