. She's probably 17 at the oldest. 'A minute over' is an exaggerated form of 'slightly over'. The point is that she is very young and cute. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Hello, everyone. I'd like to ask a question about the phrase by Chuck Berry.
She's too cute to be a minute over seventeen. How old is she - is she exactly 17 or a little more or...? And what's the point? |
We can't say here how old she is. She is too cute to be a minute over seventeen. It's our impression of her. She is so cute that we can't believe her to be a minute over seventeen. But actually she can be more than seventeen. One of my students is 21 but she looks so cute that you won't think she is a minute over seventeen.
Probably she is seventeen as MM says. And maybe she 21 but she looks young(not a minute over seventeen). |
