Hi,MM
Your answers are useful. May I add more items? I want to write more items, but I seldom read the items. So it's not easy for me to describe them correctly.
8. 3M post-its(I would use 3M. When they are full of words I write and I don't need them anymore, I would throw them away.) 9. Plastic Coca Cola cups 10. Pens which have no water 11. Old printer which couldn't been printed anymore 12. Washing clothes bags which have holes and I couldn't use them anymore.(I am not sure if there are these kinds of things in other countries.) 13. Aluminum foil milk 14. Papers which has been used completely 15. Empty shampoo 16. Remainder food 17. Used straws 18. Bags for packing other rubbish 19. New clothes tags 20. Soap cartons(each soap has been packed for one carton) 21. Plastic noodles bags 22. Bags for packing each meals 23. Plastic coffee wrap(When I want to have one cup of coffee myself,I would put them with mixed hot water. It costs around 3 cents US dolloars in Taiwan.) 24. Paper instant noodles cartons. 25. Used chopsticks and plastic spoons
And one more questions, may I add definite article 'the' before the terms? Why or why not?
Oh...I found out I need to take good care of our earth more. :p
Thanks so much again.

. The exercise is to list what you threw away yesterday; there is no call for the definite article-- this is first mention of the item-- unless it is explicitly qualified: 'a banana peel' vs 'the banana peel that I found under my bed'.
11. My old printer 12. Mesh laundry bags full of holes 13. An aluminum-foil milk carton 14. Used writing paper 15. An empty shampoo dispenser 16. Leftover food 17. Used straws 18. Unused rubbish bags 19. New clothes tags 20. Soap cartons 21. Plastic noodle bags 22. Used food container bags 23. Plastic instant coffee wrappers 24. Paper instant noodle cartons 25. Used chopsticks and plastic spoons . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Wow..MM
I really have learned a lot. Thanks a lot.
8. 3M post-its 9. Plastic Coca Cola cups 10. Pens which have no water
But the above items are all correct to call them? Especially for 'Pens which have no water'. I am not sure if I could describe them in that way.

. Oops-- sorry, I missed those when I cut-and-pasted.
8. Old post-it notes 9. Several plastic Coca Cola cups 10. Some empty pens

Hi,MM
Oh! My goodness. I found out one thing now.
4. Used sanitary napkins (Ugh! Does this really have to be on your list?)
Here I don't mean this. My really meaning is the papers people who might be male or female would use in the bathroom. 'Used sanitary napkins' is for female only. Am I right? So how to describe it? (It's a big misunderstaning.)

. Diverhank suggested 'kleenex' or tissue paper-- is that what you mean? Otherwise, I know that some people use gauze pads for various cosmetic tasks in the bathroom. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Are you sure, Maggie? Tissue (paper) is what people normally use to blow their noses (it's another term for 'paper handkerchief').
Aren't you referring to what in some regions is simply called 'toilet paper'?
By the way, drawing up this kind of list does make us more aware of the huge amount of rubbish we generate each day -- isn't it alarming? |
