Need some SAT advice (help me hike my critical reading score by about 120 points) Tue Jul 24, 2007 19:54 pm  Need some SAT advice (help me hike my critical reading score by about 120 points)

Hi there,
I did my SAT in january and i got 1790 notably a 560 in critical reading which utterly dissappoints me. Since then I have abstained from that test because i was disheartened by that score but ive decided to give it another shot this december. I think i am capable of improving my math and writing scores on my own so long as i dedicate some time to hard work which i intend to do. But my pitfall is critical reading. Somehow ive failed to grasp that section and get a high score there. In fact i was looking at my Q and A report and i noticed that out of 19 sentence completion questions i only got 6 correct(horrendous!). So im going to spice up my vocab by learning about 1000 words over the next few months so as to improve that score but i think the best solution for me is practice. Can someone recommend any sites that will provide me with free exercises and questions that will help me hike my critical reading score by about 120 points? Can anyone suggest any other ways i can improve my performance in this section? Any help will be deeply appreciated.

Thanks

Hey johnbosco,

I can understand your frustration with the Critical Reading Sections. I struggled with them when I was preparing for the SAT back in the day. However, after much practice, I noticed certain patterns (particularly with the passage questions) and devised my own strategies that helped me improve my score by 150 points. I've written about this extensively on my blog in the past.

It may seem counterintuitive at first, but basically you want to focus on the questions and answer choices rather than the passage itself. I recommed you check out the post: How I Improved my SAT Critical Reading Score by 150 Points It will help you. Good luck.
