Hi Neelshiv,

No problem! I am always happy to help when I can.

To answer your question, I'm currently finishing up my Masters of Liberal Arts w/ a concentration in Foreign Literature at Harvard =) How about yourself? Where and what are you doing/studying currently? Where in the US are you looking to apply for in the near future?

Re quant questions ... I think the hardest questions I encountered were the Kaplan questions I got from doing their course. I felt that the ETS 10th ed. math questions were quite easy but the ones I got on the actual test were much harder. Which books are you working w/ right now? According to my knowledge, Ms Prachi has some recent questions in her thread and also in her download section there are many different texts that you can try.

Anyway, I am really not the best person to talk to about quant since my score was a total fluke! I was so bad at math in high school and I am truly amazed that I got over 700 for it. Perhaps it was my state of mind in the test - I mean, I was thinking well, this quant doesn't really matter for me so I'll just take it easy and take whatever comes. Maybe that's why I didn't commit too many "silly mistakes" as is my habit.

Hope the above helps. Take care and good luck studying!

hi Wed Sep 26, 2007 21:28 pm  hi

hi Dakini,

Well, about myself......I study in final year, Engineering in India. I badly need a perfect score in quant.

I attempted mock tests from 800score.com and scored decently. But I somehow felt the quant part was too easy. Can you please comment on the mock tests of 800score.com?

Hope you are doing pretty well Smile

Regards.

Hi Neelshiv,

I've never done the mocks from 800score.com because I found their interface too hard to read. However, I think doing more mocks will help you so I encourage you to try as much as you can in the time that you have.

Cheers!

Hi Dakini & all,

thanks for your help. I'm trying to give my best effort for GRE.

I received toefl IBT score today, it's 114 / 120. Is it a good score or a mediocre one? See, they don't publish the percentiles, so I'm asking.

Best wishes.

Hi all, especially those who have helped me in the past!

Just wanted to let you know that I took the GRE today and got .... Verbal - 700; Quantitative - 710. It was a really nerve-wracking experience but I'm glad I got through and also achieved the score that I wanted (700 Verbal). The only word I didn't know on the antonyms was "ductability" but I figured it was something akin to duct tape and went with that.

What was surprising was my last Reading Comp was very very long and it also had 4 different points of view on the same thing in it. I've never seen something so complicated in my mock tests, but on reflection I guess it was an indication that I had already moved up to the high level questions. I was really lucky that the last reading comp (I had three total) was on art history and especially cubism/surrealism, both of which I love and know a fair bit about (my masters' thesis was on surrealism) so I answered the questions without much difficulty even though I didn't read the passage carefully.

The quantitative I thought was hard and I also thought I did poorly because I guessed about half the questions. (I don't need a good quant score b/c I am applying for a literature PhD.) Anyways, I nearly had a panic where I thought I might get 400 for that, but thank goodness I didn't cancel my score at the end!

What was surprising though was that I only got the following sections:
1. analytical writing
2. verbal
3. quant
4. informed research section
I thought there was one more hidden research section but it wasn't like that for me! Has anyone had this experience before? Anyways, I've been told not to worry about that.

So I just wanted to share my experiences with you all, and to wish all of you that haven't done the GRE yet the very best of luck! If I can help you with anything just drop me a message here. I'll check every now and then though the next month will be hectic as I am moving cross-country. In any event, all the best to you all!

Hi dakini,
can you please tell me some of words ( analogy and antonyms) that you are come across in the gre test today.
thank u.

What is the yahoo group posted by dynamite? I've tried to search but can only find gre-verbal.tk which is not working. I really appreciate it if someone could tell me about Dynamite's yahoo group. Thanks a lot.

Hi Dakini

You have so generously give your time to help those preparing for GRE and you are appreciated....thank you. Actually, I should capatilize that...Thank You!

I do have a question though. I searched back through the theads and found dynamite's post concerning the monthly word list and such, but I cannot click the links to the left of the page for the yahoo group. Its not working for some reason. Do you know of any reason or am I doing something wrong. Your scores just amaze me to no end. That is FANTASTIC, for lack of a better more fitting adjective. YOU ROCK....how's that?

Seonmi,

Yes. That is the one. I was having problems accessing it for some reason, but I finally got it to work. I created a yahoo account, signed up, and am now waiting approval to join the group. Thanks so much for your response.
