Hi

Can anybody tell me why I keep getting the message that my signature is too long? I see that there are other forum members with much longer signatures than mine, so this all seems a little weird to me. :?

Your signature didn't include the word 'smile', did it? :)

(Sorry, just couldn't resist this lame attempt at a joke.)

Hi Amy and Conchita,

Initially every forum member was able to create a signature of up to 500 characters. Most forum members would limit their sig to just two or three lines and everything was fine. Then one forum member created a signature that consisted of 10 or so lines which meant that their signature was sometimes longer than their actual post. Google doesn't like this because it looks like another form of "spamming". It also makes it difficult to read posts because you are always distracted by a long signature text. So we decided to limit the number of characters allowed in a signature to 75. This obviously was too small a number and we then set it to 125. Hope everyone will be happy now ;-).

Thanks for the help, Torsten. Even though my signature was shorter than the previously stated limit of 75 characters, I was still getting the "your signature is too long" message, so I really couldn't figure out what was going on. Somehow the change to 125 has now eliminated that message, though. Hmmm... For some reason I'd always thought computers could add correctly...

No, but I'm quaking in my boots at the mere thought of the even sterner warning I might have gotten if the plural 'smiles' had been there.
