Hi Harry,
Lost Soul might be able to do more for Russia if he/she goes to the US than if he/she stays at home. So, she/he actually might be a real patriot. |
I don't think so. Living here in Russia I can see how Russian Economy is becoming more and more powerful. A lot of foreign businessmen come here because Russians leave for the so-called warm countries. Actually I am not Russian myself but I do everything to help this wonderful country. I'm helping them improve the system of their education. I earn small money. I don't do it for money. |

Here in the US, we read that the Russian economy is getting more and more powerful (although people outside Moscow may not feel it), but that the level of corruption and the lack of rule of law discourages a lot of foreign investment. I think of one case where a Western oil company got into a joint venture with a Russian one that needed its equipment modernized. Once the contract was signed, the Westerners poured tens of millions into making the oil fields efficient and up to date, so that they would be more profitable. Once that was finished, the Russian partner basically said, "Thank you. Now I get all the money. Good-bye." There was nothing the Western company could do about it but write it off on their taxes as a failed investment.
Another time some Americans started a business in Moscow, and they attributed part of their success to the fact that they borrowed their startup money from Western sources. They were asked on the news why they didn't use Russian banks, and they said, "Basically, if you owe money in this country, you die."
I believe that this stuff was true at one time, but what do you think? Is the Russian business world still that kind of mine field? |

The situation is changing dramatically at the moment. The economy is becoming more powerful, new laws appear which support business projects. Well, I am not an economist, I'm an optimist maybe. But there is a lot of good factors to start a business in Russia. I'm a teacher and I'm thinking to start a small business because teachers earn too little money in Russia. |

If you owe money in the US to a bank, you simply pay off your debts, or else they start foreclosure proceedings. You don't lose your life.
If you owe money in the US to mafia loan sharks, and you can't pay on time, you are liable to be injured or killed.
My understanding was that, at the time of the TV report I saw, the dividing line between banking and mafia loan sharking was very blurry in Russia. |

To Harry Smiith
I chose my nickname based on a hero in a popular computer game which I played when I was a child, It's called DOOM, if you remember it :). I chose it "in the heat of the moment", for no apparent reason, it just happened to come to my mind when I was filling the registration form :)
To Che Gevara Yes, I'm Russian
To Jamie (K)
If you borrow some money from a real bank (And I bold the word real) the max you'll get if you walk out on your promise to the bank to pay back is that you'll lose the part of your property which you declared to the bank as a bail while making the contract or you'll go to jail. Dont make a mistake trusting all those felons who pass themselves off as a "bank organisation" and who promise you big money in no time and without any bail - they are those who'll actually haunt you to death if you refuse to pay them back. You can easily tell them from real banks. |

Hi! I'm not Russian, I'm Armenian. I teach English in one of schools in Moscow, the capital of Russia. I love this city because it's one of the most beautiful cities in the world. You can meet people of many nationalities here. It's a cosmopolitan city like New York. The school where I work is multi-cultural and English is one of the main disciplines. I have my own methods of teaching and I'm allowed to teach with my own textbooks which aren't published yet. :) |
