Twingo vs. twinge? #1 (permalink) Tue Jul 31, 2007 14:18 pm   Twingo vs. twinge?

Hi,

You might have heard of (or seen) the Twingo, a car that Renault used to manufacture and sell for a while. I wonder what kind of associations native English speakers have with the name "Twingo" because it looks very similar to the word "twinge". I mean, do you think of a sudden pain when you see a Twingo on the street because its name?

Thanks,
Torsten

Twingo vs. twinge? #2 (permalink) Tue Jul 31, 2007 16:50 pm   Twingo vs. twinge?

Hi Torsten

I remember seeing the Twingo in Germany, but I don't think it is even sold here in the US. (I may be wrong about that, though.)

I don't think that a native English speaker is likely to associate the name Twingo with the word twinge unless they read a typo (i.e. the 'o' was mistyped as an 'e').

Personally, I never really associated any other words with the name Twingo. The only association I make is with the brand name Renault -- because 30 years ago I had a lot of trouble with a Renault.
