Hi I am a gter, do you know it? =) Thu Aug 02, 2007 21:36 pm  Hi I am a gter, do you know it? =)

I am about to applying for the graduate school in the U.S. Now I have to take the GRE and TOEFL exams. So in China we call the test takers who need to cope with both of them as the GTER. Does any other gter in here with me=)

Because the GRE test in China is split, so I had finished the analytical writing section in July.13th and I can share more experiences in this area with you. Recently I take more works on verbal and quantatitive. I know here are many students can get the high verbal scores like 700 or more, my ideal verbal score is above 600 and I think its also tough to me now. So I need to do more practise and learn more new words.

And my undergraduate major is film production, in the Central Academy of Drama. I will apply to another related program as my graduate major. So if you want to discuss about those information just let me know.

As to the verbal, I think the long reading is the hardest part to me. Who have some advice about master this section?

Anyway, it is me=)

Hi I am a gter, do you know it? =) Sun Aug 12, 2007 7:54 am  Hi I am a gter, do you know it? =)

Hello, Princess-- and welcome to English-test.Net. It's been almost 40 years since I took the GRE, and I have never taken TOEFL, so I guess I am just an AGER.

Mastering long reading passages is done by learning how to recognize discourse forms and the micro- (however, on the other hand, etc) and macro-organizing (it has been asserted, the argument is essentially that, which may be categorized, etc) lexical phrases that structure them.

Thanks Micawber,

You made me looks like more "fresh" today to be a prospective GRE taker!

Well I have a finding now, I realized to take the reading comperhension, the best way is to read directly. Rather than try to remember the whole words list at first, and then to learn the sentence structures and begin to read. It's not an effecient way. However, remember you and me learnt our mother language was based on "encountering" the strange words frequently and therefore we questioned it to mother or dictionary.

That's quiet funny, today when we start to learn an new language we tried to eat up the whole vocubulary and can open the books, to read the passage etc. Seems like that the children have more courage than the adults. We even scare to face the "ignorance" in an new field. But the truth is we must start the new knowledge from ignorance. It is a natural rule and we try to break up it always Razz

Best,
-Princess
