Hi Yankee,
Your comment

| Well, let's put it this way, EU: I have heard quite a few negative comments about the "URP" sort of accent. |
prompts this question: Who are these people who tell you about how unpleasant an accent U-RP is? Why do they tell you this?

Hi EU
You know, it's not just Americans I've heard the less than laudatory comments from. Haven't the various reasons already been discussed ad nauseam in a large number of threads? Or have I now started hallucinating too? :? . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

Hi Yankee,
Have you heard such comments from many Americans? I am curious because I just don't find it very likely that you'd discuss U-RP with most of the Americans you meet. In what context(s) have people told you about their attitude towards this accent? How do you know that those who never mention accents don't adore U-RP?
All the best

Hi EU,
Eavesdropping on your discussion I am fascinated with the idea that anyone would
this accent to which you constantly allude. For myself I can just about accept that you could adore someone's voice but accent? Come on that's really OTT!

Hi Tom,
Apologies - I shoud have been more circumspect! This means Over The Top, again suggesting exaggeration.
