Dear Torsten,
Thanks for your regular emails. Your are doing great hard work. I would like to improve my English but I cannot say that I achieve success. Main reason is that I dont study regularly. I must say that I am lazy. But I have good motivation. In a two month I have to go to an English speaking country for a week. For this reason I am going to revise my faults in my studing English. I will write about my plans in the next e-mail soon.
Sincerely yours, Yadigar |

The reason for me to learn English Language is to improve my writing skills. I always have phobia when I think about writing a letter to anyone.
Hope I would benefit for the exercises you have been giving it to me.

| I would be very grateful to get pro/contra arguments on the statement:" French language is the language of the XIX century, English is the language of the XX century and Chinese is the language of XXI." In particular, I am interested in Chinese. Do you think it's the most challenging language and new generation should persist learning it. |

Hello from the south of Brazil!
I am learning English for many reasons. First of all, I make my living out of it, also the English language has been a way to improve my life in many ways, reading about subjects such as gardening, Holistic subjects , Philosophy, etc... It gives me a great pleasure to be able to read books of my areas of interest in English. And now that I've started studying French, it is English the language I use as a way to get information. English has been a high point in my life. My two children speak English very well and they got it in a natural way, without courses, without teachers and they say it was because of me , who made the language part of our lives. I do consider that a great achievement. Well, but there is something that puzzles me: I work with translations, sometimes, and I do not like it very much because when I read in English I get the picture so easily. The problem appears when I try to put the idea in English into Portuguese. A always have a feeling there is something missing, the words do not fit properly. Well, I think it is part of the game, this feeling. I Would like to exchange points of view on this subject, in case there is anybody interested on it.

| My reason to study English is almost the same. I love it and it might be a word-for-word rewritting of your post.( I also have two kids and they are learning the language with me, can't say they know it perfectly well so far, they are rather young and the second foreign language is German) But to add a bit, I would ephasize my sencere love to the country where it as spoken, Britain, I mean. English humour, way of life, literature, behaviour is very clear for me. I enjoy reading and getting information in English. Speaking about translation, I am sure it's the matter of talant And nothing you could do about it. My daughter makes much better translations than me, though she is 11. And I could only conciliate myself that I am very good at feeling which translation is the best. |
