'On this seat'-- otherwise, it seems fine to me. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

| To me, I visualize a seat as in a chair...with this, I chuckled to imagine 5 people trying to fit in a small chair. Perhaps you mean a bench, like those found in a church? |

. I see nothing wrong with its being a long seat on a bus or train, which is what I envisioned (not being a churchgoer). It may have another name, but I don't think it's called a 'bench'. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Here are some definitions of what a bench is and I think the main one fits what I was thinking of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bench |

. I don't see one that means a seat on a train, Hank-- which was the only point I was making. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Oh OK. I didn't realize the asker was talking about a seat on a train...where did he say that? . I guess that was what you were thinking of. I was thinking of something else, of course. I wrote my answer without reading your post, only his. |

. He didn't specify-- you just said what you imagined, so then I said what I imagined. We'll have to wait for LE to tell us what he's really speaking of. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

I am talking about any seat where 6 persons could sit on it. It may be a bench or a small table or a big chair. I just want to learn the usage of "sprawling" and "sideways" by this thread. _________________ Please let me know if I have made any mistakes in any of my sentences. |

. I would say 'sprawling across one seat', then. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

. I was talking about the various definitions of 'bench' in the link that Hank provided us. 'One' refers to 'definition'. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |
