In my opinion, when it comes to reading, all you can do is read something that you are

a - interested in

and

b - somehow suits your language level.

and b makes things more difficult for you. It sometimes happens that my students ask me the what-can-I-read qustion, and I usually suggest a few books like

The Alchemist
by Paolo Coelho
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
Butcher Boy by Patrick McCabe

just because I think they are fairly easy to read.

Maybe anybody knows of books appropriate for beginners?
