She put the tea-glass on the table. So flies were moving around it (glass). Then I rolled up the newspaper and swiped the flies away. So the newspaper become crinkly.

Are these sentences correct at least as to grammar?

It would be easier if I just revised:

After she put the tea glass on the table, some flies were buzzing around it. I rolled up the newspaper and brushed the flies away, but I crinkled the newspaper.

I think the phrase "swipe away" can be replaced for "brushed away" in this context. Am I right?

Yes, I think 'swipe' should be replaced by 'brush', which expresses the action better.
