Is this sentence correct?

Yes! I have a lot of question regarding "better off".

Here are a few more sentences; please look at it whether it is correct or wrong :

(1) I think you will be better off if you choose "History" as your major group.

(2) It would be better off if you had asked the question in this forum rather than that forum where you should wait one day for a reply.

(3) When my parents died, I found myself $ 5,000 better off.

(4) Once I get promotion, I will be better off.

Here are a few more sentences; please look at it whether it is correct or wrong :

(1) I think you will be better off if you choose history as your major (concentration).
You used the expression correctly in that one.

(2) You would be better off if you had asked the question in this forum rather than that forum where you have to wait one day for a reply.

(3) When my parents died, I found myself $ 5,000 better off.
Well, okay, the sentence is correct, but would we really say that after our own parents have died?

(4) Once I get promotion, I will be better off.
That one's also good.
