Hi,
I heard this line on a song:

The judge wasn't lenient like he was before

I'm of the opinion that the blue verb should be in the past perfect? (i.e. was should be had been)

Could you tell me your opinion, please?

Also I dont quite understand these lines:

Quote:
In the scheme of life we're all just brothers
Rehabilitate with all the others


Could you put them in other words, please

I don't see any urgent need for the past perfect in that sentence since I don't think the order of the two past events will be misunderstood. If you wanted to be more formal, you could use the past perfect, of course.

As far as your other questions goes, maybe the person is trying to say that "we're all the same" or "we're all in the same situation" and "we should improve ourselves together".
