Online Job: I'm really looking for an online job! Could you help me find one? Thu Aug 23, 2007 11:55 am  Online Job: I'm really looking for an online job! Could you help me find one?

Hello dear Torsten,
Last night I was toying with the idea of publishing a website on which I sell educational materials and also teach people who buy them. In fact there are a few of such websites published in my mother tongue.
Now I need you experience on handling the websites.

Would you please tell me about pros and cons of handling a website? Can I handle it alone? Do you recommend it all in all?

Please let me know what you think about that idea.

Hear from you soon.

Let me know what you think.

Hello dear Torsten,

I read the article carefully and found it very fruitful. I owe you a great amount of gratitude for it. You had pointed to several wonderful qualities in the article, I don't want to sound boastful but I almost possess all of them.

Torsten, it's time to research the market for me. There are some websites selling English training materials. I should know how they act, how they find their customers, how much their products cost!!

From the other side, I'm going to visit a website designer.

Anyway, I'm all ears to hear your advice on the way I'm starting. Certainly I'll follow it.

Hear from you soon.

Hello Dear Torsten,

First of all I should express my great regards to you for your articles published on english-test.net. I found them very fruitful and need your permission to include them in my new CD, which will come to the Iran market in the near future.

The fact is that I am going to collect some articles/e-books on English language and translate them for Iranian to get a better grasp of English.

Do you let me translate your article? publish it? If positive, be sure, I'll include your name.

You can also joint me in my joint online project if you wish.

Waiting for reply.
Please reply soon.

Hi Mohammad,

Yes of course you can translate any of the articles on our site and we'll be support you in helping the Iranian people learn English. The goal for anyone wanting to learn English is probably being able to use authentic English such as DVD's, audiobooks, TV and radio. Could you please tell us how many people in Iran have access to such sources?

Talk to you soon,
Torsten

Hello dear Torsten,

Well, young Iranian people make up more than 25% of the country's population. Iran has a population of nearly 70 million. In Iran more than 20000000 young people, under 30 years old, live. I can tell you for sure that many many of them want to learn English language. For many households learning a second language especially English is a must. It would be interesting to know that a large number of students take part in English language classes (beside computer, Internet, Word, painting & ...) in the summer time.

Torsten, I dare say to you more than one third of the students will participate in English training classes for one term at least. Of course some don't take such courses because they don't have enough time, so they never learn the second language. But fortunately thanks to expansion of the Internet in the country the number of such people has decreased.

About teaching materials: In Iran you can find a wide range of CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, etc. from the bookstores. They even buy books sold on the Internet from the outside of the country and deliver them to buyers.

You may know that the Iranian people are not able to buy online from the outside of the country. The fact is that companies like MasterCard, Visa, Paypal, etc. are not allowed to invest in Iran because of sanctions imposed against us. This causes that we can not buy online. Ofcourse these sanctions haven't made us stay at home and do nothing. Years ago, national companies had joined to publish COD system (by that they earn a fortune). As you know in the COD system the payment for goods will be made when the goods are delivered.

That's all for tonight.

Take care,
Mohammad

Hello dear Torsten,

Do you rely on the placement tests like this:
http://www.bostonacademyofenglish.com/freetest_questions.htm

In another words, Do you think it is possible to check one's level by this test?
Is the result reliable?

Hear from you soon,

Hi Mohammad,

Since you are an English teacher, I'd first like to hear your opinion on the test you have posted. Do you think the 21 questions are sufficient to assess a person's level of English? Also, what do you think are 'placement tests' good for?

Thanks,
Torsten

To me that test is not enough for placing students.

As you know the placement test results are designed to help the students off "on the right foot" in English.

Student misplacement has serious ramifications for the students. It's crystal clear that students who enroll in a course that is too high are far less likely to be successful than students who enroll in the appropriate level course.

Besides that do you know a comprehensive placement test?

Hear from you soon,
Mohammad

Hi Mohammad,

I think it's better if people learn English by being exposed to the language. This means, they should listen to audio books and watch TV on a daily basis. As a matter of fact, I have never met any person who has really learned English as a student in a "classroom". So, the entire idea of placement tests is rather questionable. Arrange groups that consists of people with different backgrounds and have them exchange their learning experiences. Try to come up with ideas how your learners can surround themselves with English on a daily basis.

The language learning process doesn't take place in the classroom anyway so why bother with placement tests? Instead you should find ways of exposing your students to English on a constant basis. They need to listen to authentic English every single day. You can bring various audio recordings to your classroom and have your students listen to them. Those people who say they want to listen to the recordings again because they find them useful, go into one group. The others go in another group where you will be using recordings that are easier to understand.

Hi Mohammad,
It is so awesome that you are interested in the online travel Industry! It is the largest industry in the world. An average of 2.5 million dollars is spent on travel online every 10 seconds!!

Check out my website - jbtravelteam.com. At the bottom of this page, click on the bottom button that says jbtravelteam. From there just click on company presentation - this will show you who we are, and what we do... and how we do it! After you view the presentation - check out the compensation plan - Which is the button on the upper portion of the page that says comp plan next to the home button. Feel free to browse around the site to get a feel for our company and who we are. After you're done checking things out, shoot me an email with all the questions you may have.

I am looking forward to speaking with you soon!
