What is that brings people to Internet forums like ours? I mean, there are other resources to get information such as books or the yellow pages. Why do people sign up for forums to post questions and answers? Do you think that posting on forums can save you time? Where do you see your benefits as a forum member?

Like any other higher evolved brutish lifeform, we like to exchange ideas and views and ask others for their opinion and help. It's as much fun to disagree as it is to get empathic treatment. Why else would we opt for living with a partner we would avoid if circumstances were differnt?

This forum is one of the few ways of getting my questions about English answered (right now it is actually the only way because the English classes I had attended broke up for the summer a few months ago Smile )

Sometimes the forum had one or several special theme can "narrow" the mass to be a smaller group. Just like people who instereted in cars and they will be assembled in a forum which everybody talking about that. But we may live in an actual environment which no people care about cars at all.

One reason I can think of is that forums such as the ones on this site offer ESL students fast, personalized answers to questions. There is a sea of information on the Internet, but wading through all of it to find the answer to your specific question can be daunting.

I can't speak for other ESL professionals on the site, but I find it interesting to read about where ESL learners have difficulties. That's educational for me -- even though I already have many years of ESL experience under my belt. And it's nice to be able to help clarify something for someone. It's also interesting to see how other English speakers and experts answer and interpret things.

I think many ideas you can't speak out or get in your real life in the fear of hurt others and this really a nice site where I can ask for help and get response promptly~~.
I attended many english oral courses before which cost me much money but got little. So the forum is just like a classroom where i have teachers and classmates.

I first logged onto the forum when I was looking for some answers, especially the difference between American and British English. I teach conversational English. So it is a good way for me to learn things that I can explain to my students. And I guess it’s faster than using books etc..

Then I really got into the site and I found the interaction interesting. Very international and very interesting to see the different opinions and views people have.

Forums exist because people like discussing their favourite subjects, i.e. languages, sports, cars, trips, games, et cetera. This forum, in particular, serves both purposes of helping out people who are learning the language and those who just seek a way to spend their leisure time or are eager helpers. Razz
