Hi,

Could you please give a look at the following sentence?

Quote:
Where do they get the money? Coming up redheaded curates from the county Leitrim, rinsing empties and old man in the cellar.

And I guess this is another Joycean word puzzle. It is said the meaning is: rinsing empty bottles and putting in the leftover. But I have no idea why 'old man'. Could anyone give me some tip?

Thank you!

Hi Haihao

I have no idea, but Ms Google tells me that there is something called Old Man Ale.

Thank you all the same, Amy, for taking the time and trouble to respond my odd question. And I feel Ms Google's Old Man Ale maybe is the right answer... It also reminds me of Mr Joyce sometimes elaborately using small letters for proper nouns...

By the way, Ms Google told me there was a site containing Mr James Joyce's main works. In case you may be interested.
