Hi, everyone

I read a joke and this sentence struck me as odd:
Quote:
...The next day, the same guy came into the bar and asked for the same drinks. When the bartender asked what the problem was today the answer came back...

Particulary I'm worried about today. Arent we supposed to change it to that day when we have Reported Speech (which is the case) ?!

So what do you think?

Hi LS

The use of 'today' keeps a tone of irritation or exasperation in the story.

What are you worried about today?
Now what are you worried about?
What are you worried about this time?

(All of those might possibly be said while rolling your eyes about the other guy's seemingly endless and ridiculous worries.)

That's my take.
