Hi,

Could you please give me a hand on the passages below?

Quote:
His hand went into his pocket and a forefinger felt its way under the flap of the envelope, ripping it open in jerks. Women will pay a lot of heed, I don’t think. His fingers drew forth the letter the letter and crumpled the envelope in his pocket. (V, Lotus Eater, Ulysses)

1. Is the repetition of 'the letter' just for a sense of emphasis?

Quote:
M'Coy. Get rid of him quickly. Take me out of my way. Hate company when you.

2. Does this mean: He could be in my way. You would hate company when you are in such a situation.

Thank you!

Haihao

1-- It is a misprint, Haihao. My copy reads: 'His fingers drew forth the letter and crumpled the envelope'.

2-- Yes, essentially: 'He will take me away from my planned itinerary. You hate company when you are in such a sensitive, private situation'.

Thank you again, MM. The misprint made me contemplate for quite a while too! Smile

By the way, I googled yesterday across a piece of information saying a new DVD is on:

Just in case you would like to have a look at it.
