Hi,

I have a question to ask of you on the following conversation.

Quote:
--As decent a little man as ever wore a hat, Mr Dedalus said. He went very suddenly.
--Breakdown, Martin Cunningham said. Heart.
He tapped his chest sadly.
Blazing face: redhot. Too much John Barleycorn. Cure for a red nose. Drink like the devil till it turns adelite. A lot of money he spent colouring it.(VI, Ulysses)

A commentary book says 'adelite' implys 'gray colored'. If so, does the two 'it's refer to 'a red nose' or 'blazing face' or whichever?

Thank you!

.
I suppose the nose, by reason of proximity. Also, the following phrase ('A lot of money he spent colouring it') is a standard one-liner in pub humour.

Many thanks, Mister Micawber. The reason of proximity is so convincing to me, which, however, was beyond my recognition. Also, the standard one-liner is another 'bonus' to me.
