Unlike any other careers, it isn’t easy to determine whether a teacher does well or badly in his teaching. So should teachers be paid according to how much their students learn? I completely disagree with this idea. If so, then teachers will only concentrate on the tests and the good students in their classes. Also, it’s unfair for teachers because they have no control over which students are placed in the class.
If we pay a teacher according to his students’ marks on the tests, then the tests are things he cares the most. He’ll make his students memorize facts that are in the exams. So students will miss the chance to gain a wider variety of knowledge. They won’t go anywhere further than memorization.
Another reason contribute to my opinion is the situation of slow students. Most teachers will want to take good care of the better students in his class. These students do well at exercises, memorize things fast so undoubtedly they’ll get good grades more easily. Teachers will not try their best to educate slower students that get mediocre results. These students who must be looked after the most now will receive the very little help from their school.
Finally, it’s unfair for a teacher who has to work hard to help average students instead of having brilliant students with him. People will think those students didn’t study hard when looking at their progress. It’s not always true to make that prediction at all. In conclusion, I think scores don’t show all things we need to know about a teacher’s effort. So maybe it’s better to judge a teacher by seeing how much a teacher has taught his students, not by looking at his students’ grades. |
