Use of 'As Is' (..., choose a technique that allows you to measure it 'as is') Thu Sep 06, 2007 16:00 pm  Use of 'As Is' (..., choose a technique that allows you to measure it 'as is')

Hello,

Today I came across this while reading a manual for a machine made in USA.

Quote:
If the sample is extremely hard, choose a technique that allows you to measure it "as is".

Does "as is" here mean the hardness of the material is not a factor in the measurement?

And, would "as is" here have the same meaning without the inverted commas?

Many thanks in advance.

Nina

'As is' means 'as it is'. If it's too hard, the sample will have to be measured in its present condition.
