I am a sort of kind man.

The construction is correct. You understand that this sentence implies that you're a "kind" man only in some sense or in a manner of speaking, right? You are saying that, depending on how you look at it, you might be called a kind man? This is hardly a ringing endorsement, if you will.

Could you explain the parts in bold?
