Hi

Please see this: A story starts

Quote:
A long time ago there lived a man, Ali Baba. He was a woodcutter. One day he was cutting wood in ___________ forest, when he heard the sound of horses' hooves.

Now, would you use "a" or "the" in the given blank?

Tom

Hi Tom

You could use either. If you use 'the', the assumption would be that you are referring to the specific forest where Ali Baba always cuts his wood.

That's my take.
