Does "put" sound good in this sentence?

The flowers bought just now were put in the vase.
Or perhaps should I replace put to insert?

I'd suggest a slight rewording of your first sentence:

I put the flowers I just bought in/into the vase.

I would not recommend using the passive (were put) or the verb insert.

second there is another question:
Is the verb 'put' the best choice here to describe the action? In chinese we have a specific word "插". Is there such a word in English?
Put in chinese literally means"放，放置"almost the same meaning as another english word"place"
Eg: I put my textbook on the desk means I placed my textbook on the desk.
So do you think I placed the flowers into the vase sounds good?

I arranged the flowers in the vase. Is it better?

Well, about "put" I think of another phrase, it is "put on foundation". I guess a meaning of "using funds" here, but not very sure of it, am I wrong?
