Well, that is if you're willing to come see me and all that you've ever hoped/prayed for is a hearty handshake.

I am a native Alabamian (USA). I attended college at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, where I earned a BS in Psychology and Sociology with concentrations (same thing as a minor) in Mathematics, Economics, and Religion. I am working on two novels...whenever I find the time.

At one point I was fluent in Spanish and could handle conversational Gaelic; now however, I think that I might be able to manage to say "hi".

Throughout my education, I have had grammar pounded into me, so when you see a grammatical "error" -- especially a grievous one -- it is typically a case of me not caring. Although, I do fully admit to being human and to the fact that I make mistakes and can be mistaken.

Hi Auldglory

Welcome to the forum, Reb -- from one of your northern cousins. (I'm now a "Connecticut Yankee", but grew up in the Philadelphia area.) Very Happy Do you still live in Alabama? Whereabouts?

What brings you here to this forum? How did you find it?

Speaking of grammar, one thing that you hear lots about nowadays (especially in ESL forums) is "prescriptive grammar" vs "descriptive grammar".

I'm in West Central Alabama -- hmm, zip code is 35549 (I'll let you google it, rather than attempt to describe it's location. I've in Bama here on and off for my whole life. I lived in Virginia for two and a half years, North Carolina for a couple more years, Florida for about six months, Kentucky for almost a year, and Georgia for around three months.

As to what brings me here:
I currently work with a non-profit that services at-risk youth. I was helping out our teacher by looking for some grammar resources online, stumbled across this site and figured, what the hey.

I am not familiar with those terms -- however, the seem to remind me of some stuff I've read on CxG (constructive grammar -- a subfield of semiotics).

As far as The War goes:
The only bitterness I have over it is the fact that state's rights died with the South. That was the only good point we had, imo.

Sorry for taking so long to reply -- work has been a little crazy here lately. Wait -- it's always crazy. (and yes, I love to use em-dashes)
